Mystery and Transformation

A17year40ec

The other night I was enjoying some popcorn and I began to think about the wonder of a small, hard kernel of corn becoming soft and fluffy. You would never guess by just looking at it how it can transform into something totally different.

I am reminded that our lives of faith can be a bit like this mysterious kernel of corn. Let me give you a few examples:

This Sunday we are celebrating World Communion Sunday. Not only do we celebrate the mystery of bread and the fruit of the vine becoming the body and blood of Jesus for us, we also in this month remember the connection of Christians all around the world celebrating together our unity through Christ. God’s grace and presence is with us.

While our stewardship campaign mainly deals with financial support, we all know that there are so many ways to be generous with our time and talents. The mystery remains that truly the more we invest in giving and gratitude, the more we also receive and find joy. My experience of God’s goodness and generosity in response to my own growth in giving has always surprised me. I have learned that I can’t out give God.

In thinking about our Ministry Fair (October 8, 15, and 22) and all of the amazing opportunities for involvement in and through the church, I remember how God’s counting system is skewed towards abundance. We might not be the largest church around, but we sure do allow God to multiply our efforts for kingdom work.

With our Fall Festival at the end of the month we celebrate with our children the joy of transformation in becoming for a time something else entirely. I am reminded how an exuberant hug from a small child can turn the grumpiest frown into a reluctant smile. Joy can be contagious.

So come join me as we explore, wonder and celebrate our life of faith and transformation together. You never know where God might turn us inside, and transform us next!

Blessings and Peace,
Katherine
