Recommit To Your Intentions

PK Feb 2024

As we ready ourselves for Lent, a time of introspection and preparation for Easter, it’s a wonderful time to remember the new goals and opportunities that we made for the new year. Some of you might have a word for the year or some new habits and intentions that you have been trying. In preparation for Easter, Lent asks us to give up or take on something to remind us of our inward journey toward God that then results in an outward expression of faith.

Here at Asbury, there are several ways you can take that inward journey towards outward expression. First is to join us for our Ash Wednesday service on Wednesday, February 14 at 6:30 pm. Some might think that Valentine’s day and Ash Wednesday don’t seem to mesh, but I believe there is no better way to celebrate LOVE than to make a commitment to enter into a journey towards the source of all love, God. We are reminded in 1 John that “God is love.” So join us as we begin our Lenten journey.

You can continue your journey by following the daily devotional guide “The Sanctuary for Lent 2024.” These booklets are available in baskets at the back of the Sanctuary and in the Fellowship Hall and offer short daily devotions with scripture and a focus for each day. Daily devotions are an excellent practice for Lent — making time each day to be encouraged in your journey.

You can join us in our Lenten study beginning Thursday, February 22. This year we are joining with the Minnesota Conference in their studies. Sign up in the Narthex to receive the book “Multiplying Love” and then join us on Thursday mornings at 11:00 am for discussions and videos. Even if you can’t come each week, we would love to have you participate as you are able. The videos are also online at the Minnesota Conference website if you would like to participate in that manner. The books are
being provided at no cost through a generous donation.

No matter how you enter into this journey, or recommit to your intentions for the year, remember that there is always grace for new beginnings and fresh starts on continued habits. A friend of mine who is a productivity specialist reminded me that we are never aiming for 100%, but rather 80%. If we can persist at 80% we’re doing great! So join us on the journey! We are a community of faith that welcomes you no matter your starting point or pace.

Blessings and Peace,

Katherine
