Seek God and Rejoice! — August 2020

I had so hoped that in my article for August I could speak about how great it was to finally see some of you in worship again! But as you can read on the front page of our newsletter, for many reasons, we are holding off on in-person worship for now. I AM looking forward to recording worship from the Sanctuary each week and we ARE planning on having our scripture readers come and be recorded. We are also hoping to have opportunities to gather in smaller groups for fellowship, checking in with one another, and some prayer together. Look for more information in future emails or the printed bulletins that we send out each week. If you are not receiving bulletins each week, either by mail or email and you would like them, please call the church office, 624-0061, and let us know!

Psalm 105 reminds us to “give thanks to the Lord, call on his name, make known his deeds among the peoples… Let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice. Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually.”

Often times I see our gathering together each Sunday as an opportunity to seek the Lord. We are absolutely able to rejoice in our seeking of God even though we are not physically present with one another. There are the online opportunities, the option to hear the announcements, scripture, and sermon each week over the phone, and our own practices of worship and devotion. How do you seek the Lord every day? Take time today to notice the peace and joy that comes from spending some time offering your heart to God. Take some time today to tell someone else where you saw the work of God in your life or in the world. For me, I am thankful for the lilies planted around my home. They are beautiful and resilient. I also see God’s love in interactions with my family — even though we have rough spots, we are asking about where there is joy each day and working towards
contributing to that joy. God’s grace is present with us.

If you are needing help with finding a meaningful practice, or if your spirits are just flagging a little, please reach out to me at 828-263-2035. I would love to talk with you.

The Lord is still walking with us through this time, so make sure to connect with God and one another. You continue to be in my thoughts and prayers each day.

Blessings and Peace,

Katherine
