We Do Not Travel Alone — November 2020

Recently I have been enjoying meditations from the Center for Action and Contemplation by Richard Rhor. It is a site that offers daily devotions based out of a desire to combine both contemplation and action in the Christian life and journey. Each day we are asked to read a devotion and consider “What word or phrase resonates with or challenges me? What sensations do I notice in my body? What is mine to do?” I believe these are great questions to encounter as we look for God’s guidance in our everyday lives.

As we continue our journey of stewardship and commitment to Christ through our prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service, and our witness, it is helpful to remember that in all of these areas we do not travel alone. Cynthia Bourgeault reflects that “We are neither isolated nor helpless but immersed in a great web of belonging in which divine intelligence and compassion are always at our disposal if our courage does not fail us.” So in this time that continues to present challenges, I pray that you will have the courage to reach out for God’s presence and help.

How do we tap into that help? We can be encouraged by the witness of the saints who have travelled before us. We remember them on the first of November with candles and reading their names. We also take time to remember others in our lives who have given us direction and demonstrated God’s love and activity in life.

We can lift up our newly forming confirmation class as our youth seek to claim their own journey with God. Please pray for God to guide and direct these youth in the coming months so that they might grow in their love of God and in their understanding of how to claim faith for themselves.

We can step boldly and intentionally into our commitment to walk more fully with Christ. Where is God calling you to prayer? Where is God asking you to show up with your full attention and presence? What are the gifts that God is asking you to bring forth? Where is God asking for more of your time to serve? What ways can you be a witness for God’s love? As we grow in all of these areas, we will find that God is truly walking with us.

May you be blessed on your journey!

Blessings and Peace,

Katherine
